Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: How much does chiropractic care cost?

Just like medical or dental care, the cost of chiropractic care is dependent on the procedures necessary to return a patient back to health. After a thorough exam and possible x-ray exam, the doctor will be able to prescribe the best level of care for each individual and any associated costs for that care.

Q: Do you take insurance?

We accept most insurance plans and like to make our patients aware that there is a broad spectrum of coverage for chiropractic care. Some plans cover almost everything that we could offer and others not very much. We strive to help our patients obtain the maximum benefit from their plan while getting the care they need.

Q: Do you work with medical doctors?

We have strong working relations with general practitioners as well as specialists, such as orthopedic surgeons, and refer patients to them when our examination determines that cooperative care may be needed.

Q: Will you suggest exercises or other things I can do at home?

Home care is a strong part of our care recommendations at American Chiropractic Clinic — Austin. The patient is an important key in their own healing and having the patient working in harmony with the doctor can achieve the best results during the treatment process.

Q: Do I need a referral from a physician or my insurance company?

Only patients who have HMO insurance plans need a referral for treatment at a chiropractic office, much the same as seeing any other specialist.

Q: Will I get adjusted on the first visit?

In providing the best care possible, the doctor will need some time to analyze the examination, and x-ray examination if performed, to provide the patient with the optimum care for their issue. Due to the time factor, most patients will begin care after the doctor has presented their findings to the patient on the second visit.

Q: Will I have to have X-rays?

During the first visit where the doctor will perform a thorough examination, they will determine if x-rays are necessary. If the patient already has x-rays available from another provider, we ask them to bring them so we have all the current information to make the best recommendation for their care.

Q: Do you have a family plan?

Although Texas regulations do not allow for different fees amongst patients, American Chiropractic Clinic — Austin strives to make care affordable for the families that we treat at our clinic.

Q: Can someone who has had back surgery see a chiropractor?

Patients that have had previous spinal surgeries usually see much improved healing when chiropractic is included in their rehabilitation program. Patients who have had a previous surgery may notice improved function after starting chiropractic treatment as we can balance the muscle-ligament function following a surgery.

Q: How much time does it take for a typical visit?

Most visits of approximately 30-40 minutes allow enough time for the chiropractic adjustment and any therapies to be completed. Some patients may have more extensive care plans including therapies like massage and spinal decompression that may require a longer visit up to an hour.

Q: Will I get a prescription for some pain medication?

If after your initial examination and visit, the doctor feels that you may benefit from medication, the doctor will refer you to a medical doctor for evaluation.

Q: Once I go to a Chiropractor, will I always have to go?

This is a great rumor that has been around for almost a century. If after you have gone to a dentist once, will you always have to go? The reality is that to keep your body working at its maximum and to feel your best, you should see your various health care providers at regular intervals during the year.

Q: Does a chiropractic adjustment hurt?

The doctors at American Chiropractic try to apply chiropractic adjustments in a manner that uses the lightest pressure possible to achieve the desired result and satisfactory patient improvement.

Q: Can chiropractic cure everything?

Chiropractic can achieve extremely good results in almost any issue that is a chiropractic problem. The case history and examination on the first visit is designed to help the doctor determine if your case will respond well to chiropractic care, or if other recommendations may be necessary, which the doctor will convey to the patient on the second visit.

Q: Why would I have my newborn or young child adjusted?

The process of birth can exert pressures on an infant that produces small changes in the softer tissues of their spine. Early examination can allow improvements of any issues before they cause further symptoms such as colic, torticollis and other events.

Q: Can chiropractic help with colic and how?

Colic responds very favorably in most patients and many with only a few treatment sessions. Recent research over the past 5 years has demonstrated improvement in colic symptoms following chiropractic care and served to promulgate continued research specifically on these cases.
