Adjunctive Therapy
- Ultrasound treatment
Ultrasound treatment – is different from the diagnostic form used to detect fetal development and tissue abnormalities in the body. Ultrasound produces high frequency sound waves that consist of both mechanical vibrations and heat that are then transmitted to the body part being treated. They penetrate the tissue and muscles to cause deep tissue/muscle warming, which then promotes tissue relaxation, vessel vasodilatation, and increased circulation that assists in healing. The mechanical vibrations help to break up adhesions and fibrotic tissue such as heel spurs and tendonitis.
- Interferential Current – this modality produces 2 different frequency currents that “interfere” with each other allowing for a more effective and more deeply penetrating treatment without patient discomfort, which can be adjusted to stimulate parasympathetic nerve fibers for increased blood flow. Interferential differs from TENS because it allows a deeper penetration of the tissue with more comfort (compliance) and increased circulation.
Since Interferential Therapy has been in use for many years, its effectiveness is well documented. Studies have shown that patients using Interferential Therapy aids in circulation, increasing the recovery time for patients. Interferential Therapy has been used extensively for managing post-surgical, post-traumatic acute pain, edema and inflammation reduction.
- High Volt Galvanic Current – this therapy utilizes a high volt stimulation to breakdown the resistance of the skin for deeper penetration. The positive pad reduces circulation and reduces swelling. The negative pad increases circulation which helps speed healing. High-voltage pulsed galvanic stimulation (HVPGS) is gaining widespread use for wound healing, edema reduction, and pain relief.
- Intersegmental Traction – this table contains a moving roller unit that provides a comfortable stretching to the vertebrae, discs, ligaments, and muscles surrounding the spine.
- “Dry Spa” or Whirlpool Table – a small-sized water bed heated to 101 degrees Fahrenheit with Jacuzzi jets inside. This table relaxes the muscles system and reduces physical stress.
- Spinal Disc Decompression Therapy – consists of a special computer-controlled traction unit to treat and reduce herniated discs without surgery.

Acupuncture
Eastern medicine has been practiced for many centuries as the only available form of healthcare in the Orient and much of Asia. Chiropractors have utilized acupuncture in the U.S. since the early 1970’s, almost 10 years before Nixon visited China (which was followed shortly after by the first Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) School being opened here), and decades before being accepted by the medical profession.
Dr. Brown has been using various forms of acupuncture in his practice since 1981. When Texas enacted its Acupuncture Law in the mid-1990’s, Dr. Brown obtained his Fellow in Acupuncture.
Acupuncture can be used to provide pain relief, treat the cause of certain conditions, modify body reactions to health issues, or be a form of preventative treatment by keeping the body energies balanced.
